A Grade Women - Strathalbyn v Redsox
Redsox were up to bat first and had a safe hit to Steph Hull which left her stranded on base with Strath’s short stop Kim Cutting taking a catch and two outs were made at first holding them scoreless. Strath’s turn at also was scoreless with Redsox first baser Lauren Christensen taking a catch, third baser Emily Mohan-Ram making the out at first and a catch taken at right field by Amy Golder.
Again one safe hit, this time to Alex Mackay resulted in her being left on base with Strath’s pitcher/catcher combo of Tess Norris to Gab Martin working well together for three K2’s to end the innings scoreless. A two base hit to Lara Tamke was not enough to get her home with Redsox making two outs at first and a catch taken by short stop Hull kept the game at no score.
More safe hits in the third by Redsox brought one run home with Strath working hard in the field with two outs made at first and a great catch at centre field by Tamke to hold them to that. Great batting by Strath included safe hits to Georgia Tomkinson and Bianca Pash with Cutting gaining a two baser which helped bring in five runs to put them in front with Redsox making another two outs at first and a pick off of the lead runner at second.
A hit to the outfield by Kel O’Brien was the highlight for Redsox in the fourth but again Strath’s tight fielding prevented her from getting home with a pick off at second, another K2 and first baser Brooke Moses fielding and playing her base to end the innings. Strath forced some errors in the field but they weren’t able to use it to their advantage with Redsox making an out at first and catches taken by centre fielder Saskia Charter-Harris and another to Hull.
A two base hit to Chloe Zakelj got her in a scoring position in the fifth and she was able to get home with help from another safe hit by Christensen but Strath tightened in the field again with a line drive catch by Tomkinson now at short stop, an out at first by second baser Ashlee Peterson and a pick off of the lead runner at second held them to just the one run. Strath had a safe hit to Moses and an error drawn by Pash but they were both left stranded by Redsox making another out at first with Christensen and Hull both taking another catch.
Redsox needed to make runs in the sixth and Strath needed to hold them if they wanted to protect their lead and they did with Tomkinson making an out at first, Moses fielding and playing her base again and a K2 to new pitcher Peyton Daniels which meant Strathalbyn would come away with the win 5 runs to 2.
C Grade Women - Strathalbyn v Hahndorf
Strathalbyn were up to bat first and started well with safe hits to Elise Duffield, Monica Spriggs, Brydie Spriggs and a two baser to Amber Crawford which helped move runners around to bring home six runs with Hahndorf making an out at first, a pick off of the lead runner at second and a catch taken at second by Elsie Bloffwitch. Hahndorf also had safe hits to Kerry Lawson, Anna Bell, Jemma Langford and Emma Thomson which moved runners around and brought five runs across the plate with Strath’s fielders working hard to shut them down by catcher Crawford taking a catch and two pick offs at third stopping the lead runner.
Some walks gained and another safe hit to Crawford added two runs to Strath’s tally with Hahndorf taking out the lead runner at third, centre fielder Langford taking a catch and a K2 to pitcher/catcher Bell to Emma Faber Paul ending the innings. The second dig for Hahndorf produced a safe hit to Lawson and a two baser to Danielle Guilfoyle which brought in one run with Strath’s first baser Duffield playing her base for the out and combining with third baser B. Spriggs for a cross diamond double play from third to first and back to third.
Strath were held scoreless in the third with only one runner getting on with Hahndorf making an out at first and catches taken at right field by Celeste Paul and left field by Janaya Liebelt. Hahndorf needed to make some runs to get in front and they had some safe hits but they were only able to bring one home with Strath making all three outs at first base to end the innings and the game coming out on top by one run 8 to 7 in a tightly fought game.
