UPDATE: At 12.55pm all power had been restored except for some planned outages in Langhorne Creek - affecting 13 customers, and Finnis - 56 customers.

11.25am UPDATE: After reporting that more than 4000 customers were without power in Strathalbyn and surrounding communities this morning (Friday 9 October), the problems are now only affecting a few hundred people.

At 11.25am, only 280 customers located in a small area encompassing Strathalbyn, Woodchester, Highland Valley, Macclesfield and Gemmels remained affected. SA Power Networks reported that crews were working to restore power and the outage was caused by damage to its equipment. The estimated completion time was 2.15pm.

Earlier in the day, at 7.55am, SA Power Networks reported it was sending crews to investigate two major outages in the area. The first was affecting a large area including the communities of Willyaroo, Belvidere, Finniss, Sandergrove, Angas Plains, Macclesfield, Strathalbyn, Gemmells, Woodchester and Highland Valley. More than 2000 customers were affected, however at 9.50am, this figure was downgraded to just 273.

The second lot of outages in the area was affecting 2187 customers in a long thin strip of land with some overlap of the previous outage area. This outage was impacting the communities of Willyaroo, Belvidere, Finniss, Sandergrove, Angas Plains, Macclesfield, Strathalbyn, Gemmells, Woodchester and Highland Valley. At 9.50am, SA Power Networks crews were working to restore power and the problems were only affecting about 90 customers.

The StrathLocal Facebook page reported downed power lines on North Parade, Strathalbyn as the cause of the problems.
