This afternoon CFS attended a fire in reeds and grass along Lake Alexandrina near Wellington in the Murraylands, South Australia.
Due to the exceptional efforts of firefighters, the fire has been successfully contained and was prevented from spreading further.
Firefighters were on scene for approximately 6 hours. The area burnt was approximately 7 hectares.
The community are advised that due to the nature of this incident, smoke will remain in the area for some time. To ensure your safety please do not enter the area unless necessary.

The CFS is responding to a fire in reeds and grass along Lake Alexandrina near Wellington in the Murraylands, South Australia.
5 trucks with approximately 25 CFS firefighters are working to extinguish the fire and preventing it from spreading. Due to the hard to access terrain firefighters are expected to remain on scene into this evening.
Due to the nature of burning reeds, a large amount of smoke is coming from this fire. Smoke can be seen over the surrounding area and may impacting roads including:
- Karpany Road
- Langhorne Creek Road
- Lovely Banks Road
- Hawks Nest Road
When driving on these roads visibility may be reduced. To ensure your safety and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel who are working in the area, please do not enter the area unless necessary.
