Vaccine hubs to scale up state rollout

The state government will send a vaccine team to Kangaroo Island and establish a vaccine hub at Noarlunga as part of the effort to combat COVID-19.

The old Masters site at Noarlunga is one of two proposed hubs, along with the Playford Civic Centre in Elizabeth, to be set up by early June.

Both sites are anticipated to be dedicated Pfizer facilities, pending sufficient supply from the Commonwealth.

Premier Steven Marshall says more than 100,000 South Australians have now been vaccinated through the rollout and numbers will scale up with the opening of more clinics.

“Giving all South Australians access to the COVID-19 vaccination is a vital part of keeping South Australia safe and strong in response to the pandemic, and that is why we are continuing to step up the roll out of more hubs across the state.”

He says following meetings with the Commonwealth last week there is more clarity on projected vaccine supplies for additional clinics in South Australia and the north and south hubs will be activated earlier id supplies allow.

“These two hubs will play a critical role in ensuring a safe and effective vaccine rollout across South Australia.”

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade says the two sites, along with the upcoming establishment of hubs at the Adelaide Showgrounds, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier and Kangaroo Island, will scale up the state’s rollout to reach even more South Australians.

“A community vaccination clinic will open in Port Lincoln on Monday, at the Port Lincoln Aboriginal Community Council, before moving to a bigger site at the Port Lincoln Bowls Club from 27 April. The clinic will focus on vaccinating adults aged over 70 years of age and Aboriginal adults aged over 55 years of age as part of Phase 1B.

“Our vaccination clinic at Wayville Showgrounds is set to open on Friday 30 April to provide vaccinations to up to 3,000 people each week in Phase 1B, initially from the health and emergency sector who are under 50 years old.

“We also continue our work to establish a community clinic at Mount Gambier and are sending a vaccination team to Kangaroo Island.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout across South Australia is being undertaken in line with the Commonwealth Government’s Vaccine Roadmap.
