The boat involved in an extensive search earlier this month is again missing.
Police are currently searching for the boat off Victor Harbor. Just after 5am on Tuesday 22 September, police received a call from a man reporting his boat was taking on water near Granite Island. The boat is the same vessel that was the subject of an extensive search earlier this month south of Port Lincoln.
Local police with assistance from PolAir, Water Operations Unit and Sea Rescue volunteers are currently conducting a search around Granite Island.
Anyone who has had contact with the man, who sees the missing boat or has information about it is urged to call the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131444.
The boat previously went missing in waters south of Port Lincoln. Tony Higgins, 57, and Derek Robinson, 48, left Coffin Bay in the 30-foot wooden-hulled fishing boat bound for Goolwa about 3pm on Thursday 4 September. They reported engine trouble to a friend at 11pm on Friday and advised they would divert to Kangaroo Island. When no word had been heard from the men, the friend raised the alarm on Sunday and a massive search was launched. With the assistance of aircraft from The Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Royal Australian Air Force and Kangaroo Island Volunteer Marine Rescue, the total search area covered more than 103,000 square kilometres, but was called off shortly before the missing men made contact.
At 10.20pm on Wednesday 10 September the men on board made contact with police, seemingly unaware that they were the subject of a search, and they were located.
