The City of Victor Harbor has called for community volunteers to put their hands up to join a new committee dedicated to looking after local wildlife.

The council has called for expressions of interest from suitably qualified people interested in taking part in its proposed Native Fauna and Wildlife Conservation Group.

Mainly consisting of community volunteers, the group’s aim will be to significantly increase household knowledge of native fauna species management and conservation, with a commitment to managing feral and domestic predator populations.

One of its first tasks will be to develop Terms of Reference with the goal of becoming self-directing after a time.

The council would provide a level of ongoing support with regard to networking contacts, educational opportunities, possible grant options and operational guidance.

Prospective community volunteers can submit an expression of interest via a form available online, or by collecting a hard copy from the Civic Centre, at Bay Road, Victor Harbor.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday, 14 August.

There re a limited number of number of places available for this group, which means some good people may miss out.

It will still be possible to play a part in the group, as there will be opportunities to get involved in presentations, education and field operations.
