Four Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) stations have received awards at the conclusion of this years’ regional proficiency and safety audit, with Victor Harbor taking out two of the awards.

All 17 regional MFS stations participated in the annual assessment process, which gives retained firefighters the opportunity to showcase their skills, community spirit and commitment to public safety.

Victor Harbor MFS Station took out third place in Regional Assistant Chief Officer’s Shield and the Most Improved Shield.

Loxton, Tanunda and Mount Gambier MFS Stations won the other awards.

MFS Assistant Chief Fire Officer of Regional Operations Colin Lindsay commended the hard work, high standards and commitment demonstrated by all regional MFS firefighters during station assessments.

“Congratulations to the four stations receiving awards; I know how hard they, and all the regional stations, worked to prepare their station and equipment to the highest standard for the audit and proficiency assessment.”

“It becomes more difficult each year to select the stations to receive awards due to the outstanding efforts of all MFS regional stations.”

“Each station went to exceptional efforts in preparing for their assessments, including station preparation and regular practise of the training drills and equipment checks.”

MFS retained (part-time) firefighters are valuable members of their communities. They respond to emergency incidents to protect the community, local businesses and the major infrastructure in towns and cities across regional South Australia.

The MFS also acknowledges and thanks retained personnel and their families for their commitment both to the fire service and the community.

Retained MFS firefighters from the following regional MFS stations participated in the assessment process: Kapunda, Peterborough, Murray Bridge, Wallaroo, Victor Harbor, Tanunda, Kadina, Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Moonta, Berri, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier, Renmark, Loxton and Mount Barker.

Information about becoming a Retained (part-time) MFS Firefighter in a regional area is on the MFS website.
