The City of Victor Harbor will reap more than $2.4 million as the state government rolls out a $1 billion stimulus package in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Member for Finniss David Basham says just over $2.3 million has been allocated to the Railway Precinct Construction project, with another $100,000 going towards redevelopment of the George T Fisher Playground.
“This is a wonderful outcome for Victor Harbor and the Finniss electorate, which continue to reap benefits from the Marshall Government’s focus on investing in regional South Australia,” Mr Basham says.
“These are two of 37 local projects which have secured a total of $65.5 million across the state. An important factor in securing the funding was that both projects were essentially ‘shovel-ready’ and able to be delivered quickly, supporting local jobs and businesses.
“The City of Victor Harbor is to be commended for getting on the front foot and responding to the government’s calls for local projects eligible for the Planning and Development Fund, and matching the funding from its own resources to help ensure they will get off the ground as soon as possible.”
The Railway Precinct Construction project is expected to start in September, creating a revitalised public realm celebrating Victor Harbor’s railway heritage and showcasing the SteamRanger Heritage Railway and the horse-drawn tram that operates on the Granite Island causeway.
Stage 2 of the George T Fisher Playground redevelopment, starting next February, will complete this project, delivering a rejuvenated play space including a mounded play area with slides and climbers and a pathway connection to the foreshore.
“It’s these types of local projects that create local jobs and more work for local businesses,” Mr Basham says.
“The Marshall Government continues to roll out its strong plan to keep as many South Australians in jobs as possible, and our economy strong, during these unprecedented times.”
