Victor Harbor on the move in Great Southern Football

Victor Harbor moved inside the top-three on the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ladder following their 22-point win against Myponga-Sellicks this afternoon. After leading by just six points at halftime, the ‘Roos piled on five goals to one in the third quarter to take a handy 34-point lead at the last break. The Mudlarks won the last quarter, but it was all in vain as ‘Victor’ won 11.7 (73) to 8.3 (51). Jaid Cooper (4), Michael Ross (3) and Sam Basham (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the ‘Roos. Jake Spinks (3) and Jayden Scott (2) were the leading goalkickers for the Mudlarks. Best players for Victor Harbor included Jackson Elmes, Sam Overall, Jesse McKinnon, Zac Dowling and Matthew Wiese. Myponga-Sellicks were best served by Brad Clarke, Ben Kennedy, Harrison Cock, Ryan Kelly and Connor Sampson.


Mount Compass moved a step closer to securing their spot in the finals with an excellent 74-point win at Willunga. The Bulldogs won every quarter as they were victorious 15.9 (99) to 3.7 (25). Tom Pinyon continued his excellent season with five goals for ‘Compass’ and he was well supported by Nathan Hicks with four majors. Klaus Simons was named best player for Mount Compass and he was joined by Hicks, Jayden Weetman, Tom Vitkunas and Pinyon. Willunga’s best were Gareth Remfrey, Daniel Bass, Jack Redden, Nick Scanlan and Harrison Mills.


Encounter Bay won their fourth game of the season with a comprehensive 153-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Bays led by two points at quarter time, 37 points at halftime and 62 points at the last change, before kicking an amazing 14 unanswered goals in the last quarter to win 25.17 (167) to 2.2 (14). Mason Middleton kicked nine goals in a best-on-ground performance for Encounter Bay, while skipper Tyson Neale kicked four goals. Finn Hayden and Ty Rigney were the goalscorers for the Magpies. Joining Middleton in the best players for the Bays were Neale, Fraser Tonkin, Elijah Horrocks and Cohen Pettitt. The Magpies’ best included Daniel Fry, Jye Bottroff and Ryan Carnelly.


McLaren Districts moved a step closer to the minor premiership after defeating Strathalbyn by 58 points today. The reigning premier led at every change before winning 15.14 (104) to 7.4 (46). The Eagles had nine different goalkickers with Matthew Merrett (4) and Kiefver Zohar (3) leading the way. Ben Simounds kicked four goals for the Roosters. Best players for McLaren Districts included Billy Chahla, Sam Lawrie, Codey Ellison, Tom Fenoughty and Darcy Brown. Best players for ‘Strath’ were Jacob Wright, Simounds, Cooper Machin, Adam Clark and Daniel Pegler.  


Langhorne Creek won their sixth game of the season with a 23-point win against Yankalilla. The Hawks led by six points at quarter time, 19 points at halftime, and 17 points at the last change before winning 12.17 (89) to 10.6 (66). Langhorne Creek had eight different goalkickers with Darcy Clifford (3), Jack Hall (2) and Coby Helyar (2) leading the way. Angus Weir and Travis Bartlett kicked two goals each for the Tigers. Tom Derham continued his excellent season to be named best for Langhorne Creek and he was well supported by Jedd Rothe, Peter Reichelt, Clifford and Jarrod Kellock. Best players for Yankalilla included James Hargreaves, Weir, Joe Tyllis, Adam Hunt and Chris Clark.
