The RAA wants Fleurieu residents and visitors to help them investigate the safety of local roads.
All drivers (not just RAA members) are being asked to complete the Fleurieu Peninsula and McLaren Vale regional road assessment survey and flag the locations and road conditions that concern them.
The data will then be used to assess road safety issues across the region.
The RAA expects that Victor Harbor Road will be a key focus, as well as Main South Road to Cape Jervis and Alexandrina Road between Strathalbyn and Goolwa.
RAA Traffic Engineer Matthew Vertudaches said they would also consult with Victor Harbor, Onkaparinga, Alexandrina and Yankalilla councils.
The survey and assessment come after a series of fatal crashes on Victor Harbor Road in 2020.
“It has been a very bad year on this busy road so far, with four people tragically losing their lives, and others seriously injured,’’ Mr Vertudaches said.
“That’s four lives lost on Victor Harbor Road so far this year, compared to six between 2015-2019.’’
In that same period across the region, there have been a total 869 crashes leading to at least one casualty.
These crashes resulted in the loss of 26 lives, 188 people seriously injured and 655 suffering minor injuries, according to State Government data.
The results and recommendations from the Regional Road Assessment, along with survey feedback will be provided to relevant road authorities and key stakeholders in the first half of 2021.
The Fleurieu Peninsula and McLaren Vale regional road assessment survey closes on Wednesday, 16 December.
