Victor Harbor council is preparing a proposal for the town to host an AFL game as a part of the AFL's Gather Round.
The inaugural Gather Round saw all 18 AFL clubs play in South Australia in round five of the national competition in mid-April, with one match played in Mount Barker.
The ‘festival of football’ was hailed a great success and the AFL granted South Australia the right to host the special round for the next three years.
The City of Victor Harbor proposal will be presented to the South Australian Premier and the AFL.
The council expects that hosting the event would lead to a significant injection of income into Victor Harbor and surrounding region, while supporting local sporting clubs in the area.
With recent adoption of its Culture Strategy - Festivals and Events, over coming years the council is looking to increasingly pitch for major events for the benefit of the community.
