An innovative playgroup at Victor Harbor library that connects generations has won a Regional Showcase award.
Run by Solstice Media, the year-round Regional Showcase program celebrates the achievements of individuals, groups and businesses that make significant contributions to regional South Australia.
It held its annual awards night at McLaren Vale's Beresford Estate on Thursday 9 November, where Wudinna was announced as the Ag Town of the Year.
The Regional Showcase program puts a spotlight on regional South Australia by uncovering, telling and showcasing the stories of success to a wide audience.
The six story categories are Regional Resilience, Meaningful Connections, People’s Choice, Business Innovation, Community Empowerment and Lifelong Learning.
Victor Harbor library’s intergenerational playgroup took out the Meaningful Connections award.
Inspired by the award-winning ABC documentary series ‘Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds’ it brings together the young and young at heart to build relationships through play.
The library piloted the playgroup earlier this year and made it a regular activity from August. It featured in an In an InDaily story in September.
People over the age of 65 and families with children who are interested in developing connections attend the playgroup, which is held fortnightly on Thursdays at 10am.
Librarian Michelle Jorgensen, who instigated the playgroup, accepted the award on Thursday night.
A story on the work and success of the Fleurieu app featured InDaily in July, making the app a finalist in the Business Innovation Award at the Regional Showcase.
The app had just celebrated reaching 50,000 downloads and has since hit more than 64,000, a milestone founder Susie Williams hopes will continue to support and promote the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island regions.
