Victor Harbor are the only undefeated side left in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ‘A’ grade competition after defeating McLaren Districts by 20 points during round four action yesterday. ‘Victor’ set up the win with a good first half to lead by 25 points at the main break. The game was tight in the second half as the Roos won 11.7 (73) to 8.5 (53). Ben Heaslip, Sam Basham and Jackson Elmes all kicked two goals for the Roos, while Josh Vandermeer kicked three goals for the Eagles. Best players for Victor Harbor were Heaslip, Jaidan Kappler, Elmes, Michael Ross, Dylan Kleinig and Zac Dowling. McLaren Districts was best served by Vandermeer, Brodie Long, Lachlan Mathews, Codey Ellison, Brett Ellis and Jackson Daniels.
Reigning premier Myponga-Sellicks won their second game of the season after defeating Langhorne Creek by 34 points at Myponga. Langhorne Creek got off to a good start to lead by 21 points at quarter time. After the first break, the Mudlarks kicked 17 goals to eight to win 19.9 (123) to 13.11 (89). Playing-coach Darren Shillabeer kicked five goals for the Mudlarks, while Hayden Sampson (4), John Butcher (3), Mitch Wilkins (2) and Jayden Scott (2) were the other multiple goalkickers. Caleb Howell was the standout forward for Langhorne Creek with six goals and Jarrod Kellock slotted three majors. Best players for the Mudlarks included Sampson, Wilkins, Anthony Kempster, Luke Whitford, Shillabeer and Ryan Mayes. Best players for the Hawks were Tom Derham, Howell, Henry Bruce, Jack Hall, Harry Cates and William Bruce.
Mt Compass consolidated their spot in the top-five after a convincing 102-point win at Strathalbyn yesterday. The Bulldogs won every quarter on their way to a 16.24 (120) to 2.6 (18) victory. Mt Compass had 11 different goalkickers with new recruit Ryan Sherry kicking three goals. Best players for ‘Compass’ included Tom Vitkunas, Sherry, Nathan Hicks, Will Zimmermann, Isaac Churchill and Shane Heatley. Declan Grant and Jake Stafford were the goalkickers for the Roosters, while their best players were Jack Gilbert, Liam Newton, Liam Hutchinson, Ashley Weckert, Jaebyn Drefke and Reuben Stutley.
Willunga continued their strong start to the season with a comfortable 58-point win against Yankalilla. Willunga led by 21 points at halftime, before kicking nine goals to two in the second half to run out winners 18.8 (116) to 7.16 (58). In his second game for the Demons, Daniel Nobes kicked seven goals and he was well supported by Dylan Draper who kicked four majors. Thaddeus Puautjimi kicked three goals for the Tigers. Willunga’s best included Liam Nye, Sam Renney, Jaxon Hams, Draper, Brad Haskett and Zac Dumesny. Tyler Athanasos, Bailey Gaskin, Puautjimi, Joel Field, Kim Kantilla and Cameron Ker were named best for Yankalilla.
Encounter Bay also won their second game of the season after a comfortable 60-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot at Goolwa yesterday. The Bays dominated the first half to take an unassailable 54-point lead into halftime. The second half was a much more even affair, with each team kicking four goals, as Encounter Bay won 14.18 (102) to 6.6 (42). Nick Marshall kicked four goals in a best-on-ground performance for Encounter Bay and he was well supported by Jayden White, Marcus Lippett, Tyler McCreanor, Bradley Kreuger and Elijah Horrocks. The Magpies were best served by Jayden Davis, Jesse Bates, Ken Angus, Caleb Pope, Levi Baillie and Fred Nissen.
