Victor Harbor won their first Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ‘A’ grade premiership since 1999 after defeating McLaren Districts by 25 points in the grand final at Victor Harbor yesterday. The ‘Roos exorcised the demons from last season’s loss in the decider to take their first flag in 26 years. Yesterday, McLaren Districts started well with the breeze to lead by 13 points at quarter time. ‘Victor hit back in the second term with seven goals to two to take a handy 19-point buffer into halftime. McLaren Districts kicked four goals to two in the third term to reduce the margin to seven points at the last change. The ‘Roos had the wind in the last term, and they used it to their advantage, kicking three unanswered goals to win 14.8 (92) to 10.7 (67). Victor Harbor vice-captain Jackson Elmes kicked three goals in a best-on-ground display, while Harry Vincent, Sam Overall, Jaidan Kappler and Bryce Gibbs kicked two goals each. Josh Vandermeer (3), Codey Ellison (2) and Jackson Daniels (2) were the leading goalkickers for McLaren Districts. Joining Elmes in the best players for Victor Harbor included Zac Dowling, Kane Cooper, Gibbs, Ben Heaslip and Mitchell Brook. McLaren Districts’ best were Luke Mitton, Ellison, Brett Ellis, Lachlan Camm, Vandermeer and Daniels.

In the other grades it was all green and gold with Myponga-Sellicks winning the other three grand finals played yesterday. In the junior colts, the Mudlarks defeated McLaren Districts by 24 points, the senior colts saw Myponga-Sellicks defeat Willunga by 22 points, while the ‘Muddies’ provided a huge upset in the reserves decider with a 45-point win over the previously undefeated McLaren Districts.
