Vikings conquer Aldinga to consolidate top-five spot in the Southern Football League

Happy Valley consolidated their position in the top-five with a 20-point win against Aldinga during round 11 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Happy Valley yesterday. The first half was tight with Happy Valley taking a six-point lead to the long break. The second half was a low-scoring affair, with the Vikings kicking five goals to three, to run out winners 11.10 (76) to 8.8 (56). Josh Dwyer-Sterzl kicked three goals for Happy Valley, while Bailey Pilmore slotted four majors for Aldinga. Best players for the triumphant Vikings included Joel Beeche, Harry Vick, Tate Coleman, Ross Mullins and Jayden Little. Aldinga were best served by Tom Pilmore, Jack Langdon, Angus Stangewitz, Bailey Pilmore and Brady O’Hanlon. 


Premiership favourite Flagstaff Hill continued on their merry way with a 10th consecutive victory, this time by 66 points at home against Cove. The first quarter was tight with the Falcons leading by just one point at quarter time. ‘Flaggies’ burst out of the blocks in the second term, kicking seven unanswered goals, to take a healthy 43-point lead to halftime. A further seven goals to four in the second half saw the Falcons win 16.8 (104) to 5.8 (38). Flagstaff Hill had eight different goalkickers including Blake Aldridge and Josh Rosman who kicked three goals each. Scott Grieve kicked two goals for the Cobras. Best players for Flagstaff Hill were Sam Smith, Brad Kirk, David Kearsley, Huw Channing and Cameron Blake. The Cobras best included Hayden Kernahan, Harrison Riddle, Corey Jackson, Damian Roach and Grieve.


Noarlunga consolidated their spot in the top-three with a convincing 78-point win against Christies Beach. The Shoes led by 25 points at quarter time, 33 points at halftime, and 75 points at the last change, before eventually winning 21.16 (142) to 10.4 (64). Vic Robertson kicked seven goals for Noarlunga, while Rhys Mundy, Zak Short and Andrew Crate each kicked two goals for the Saints. Nathan Schulz, Jake Anderson, Vic Robertson, Josh Beard and Jamison Snelling were named best players for Noarlunga. ‘Christies’ was best served by Nathan Sable, Josh de Roode, Mundy, Ryan Matthews and Marley Lane. 


Morphett Vale pulled off one of the upsets of the season with a come-from-behind 14-point win against reigning premier Reynella this afternoon. Reynella led by four points at three-quarter time, before the Emus finished strongly, kicking four goals to one in the final term to win 12.10 (82) to 9.14 (68). It leaves Morphett Vale just percentage out of the top-five. Dylan Williams kicked three goals for Morphett Vale, as did Marc Borholm for the Wine Flies. Morphett Vale’s best players were Robert Schindler-Taylor, Aiden Baker, Khori Mills-Richardson, Michael Smith and Connor Gilby. Best players for Reynella were Dylan Roser, Liam Reid, Mitchell Scotland, Tyler Davies and Daniel Whitaker.
