Happy Valley won their ninth game on the trot after a come-from-behind 19-point victory over Port Noarlunga during round 10 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Happy Valley yesterday. Port Noarlunga started well to lead by 21 points at quarter time, and after an even second quarter, ‘Porties’ still led by 21 points at the long break. Happy Valley needed to lift, and that’s exactly what they did, as they kicked five goals to two in the ‘premiership quarter’ to reduce the margin to just five points with a quarter to go. The Vikings then dominated the final term, kicking 4.2 to 0.2, to win 13.7 (85) to 9.12 (66). Harry Vick kicked three goals in a best-on-ground display for Happy Valley and he was well supported by Nicholas Kraemer, Harry Davenport, Dylan Strickland, skipper Harry Spacie and Dylan Brown. Gary Karpany, Sammy George and Zac Sproule kicked two goals each for the Cockle Divers, while their best players included Sproule, Billy Cook, Eduard Van den berg, Daniel Flavel and Richard O'Grady.
Flagstaff Hill went to the top of the ladder after a huge 209-point victory over Morphett Vale. The Falcons had 14 different goalkickers on their way to a 33.18 (216) to 1.1 (7) victory. Michael Shearer and Nathan Beenham were the two best players on the ground, kicking six goals each, while Mason Carney and Blake Aldridge kicked four goals apiece. Other good players for ‘Flaggies’ included Aidan Carney, Ethan Johnson, Caleb McCormick and Kobe Cavouras. Best players for the Emus were Braden Ritter, Connor Panozzo, Bailey Sowter, Connor Lock, Bradley Lang and Connor Mulloy.
Noarlunga won their fourth game of the season after upsetting Christies Beach by 27 points at Bice Oval. The Shoes trailed by eight points at quarter time, before kicking 10 goals to four in the final three quarters to win 12.5 (77) to 7.8 (50). Brad Inglis continued his excellent first season at the Shoes with six goals in a best-on-ground display. Inglis has now kicked 40 goals for the season. Other good players for Noarlunga were Nick Mott, Aaron Killian, Sam Goldfinch, Ben Goldfinch and Jamison Snelling. Nathan Sable, Aidan Coakley, Callum Bennett, Shannon Archbold, Rhys Mundy and Zade Kretschmer were named best for the Saints with Bennett, Harrison Butcher and Zak Short kicking two goals each.
Cove sit just percentage outside the top-five after a comprehensive 152-point win over Aldinga at Hallett Cove. The Cobras led by 97 points at halftime, before kicking a further 13 goals to five in the second half to win 30.17 (197) to 7.3 (45). Cove had 12 different goalkickers including Michael Galley (5), Lincoln Holder (4), Ryan Need (4) and Dylan Seirch (4). Lucas Hunter and Billy Bissi kicked three goals each for the Sharks. Best players for Cove included Seirch, Jack Plenty, Galley, Holder and Alexander Percy, while Aldinga was best served by Angus Stangewitz, Brayden Hooper, Ariki Lowe, Zach Young, Hunter and Izaih Wortley.
Reynella kept the pressure on for a top-three spot after a comfortable 78-point win over Ironbank Cherry Gardens. The Wine Flies set up their big win with a dominant first term that saw them lead by 46 points at quarter time. Ironbank Cherry Gardens were more competitive after the first change, before Reynella eventually ran out winners 22.12 (144) to 9.12 (66). Jake Agnew and Bailey Marshman were the standouts up forward for the Wine Flies with six goals apiece, while Tom Esser, Oscar Morgan and Kyle Schefe kicked two majors each for the Thunderers. Best players for Reynella were Mitchell Scotland, Matthew Stanford, Marshman, Brayden Nicholls, Agnew and Talon Copley. The Thunderers best were Schefe, Jacob Campbell, Chase Wooley, Jacob Matheson, Ben Marsh and James Cross.
