Vikings on the hunt for a finals berth in the Southern Football League

Happy Valley has all but secured its spot in September’s finals series following their 45-point victory against Cove during round 14 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. The first quarter was even with scores level at 3.2 (20) apiece at the first break. From then on it was all the Vikings, as they kicked 11 goals to four on the way to winning 14.11 (95) to 7.8 (50). Corey Grocock kicked four goals for Happy Valley, while Lincoln Holder and Jayden Morton kicked two goals each for the Cobras. Best players for the Vikings included Tain Smelt, Grocock, Joel Beeche, Matthew Lillis and Jayden Little. The Cobras were best served by Cameron Wilton, Dean Hancock, Ben Morrison, Cooper Greening and Morton. 


Reynella kept the pressure on for a top-two spot after defeating winless Christies Beach by 67 points at Bice Oval yesterday. The Wine Flies won every quarter on their way to a 16.17 (113) to 7.4 (46) victory. Reynella had 10 different goalkickers with Marc Borholm leading the way with three majors. James Pratt kicked two goals for ‘Christies’. Liam Reid, Daniel Harris, Daniel Whitaker, Tyler Davies and Jack Ball were named best players for Reynella. The Saints best players included Shaun King, Josh Newnham, Joshua Semmens, Jonty Murphy and Ryan Parry. 


Flagstaff Hill kept their perfect record intact with a comfortable 88-point win at home against Aldinga. The Falcons were never threatened on their way to a 19.11 (125) to 5.7 (37) victory. ‘Flaggies’ had eight different goalkickers with Sam Jacobs leading the way with five goals (43 for the season). He was well supported by Blake Aldridge, Sam Smith and Ryan Mountford who kicked three goals each. Josh Rosman continued his recent good form to be named best for the Falcons, and he got good support from Brad Kirk, Nick Bailey, Smith and Mountford. Best for the Sharks included Sam Bentley, Mitch Jarrett and Tyler Stewart-England.


Morphett Vale won their third game on the trot after defeating Port Noarlunga by 34 points yesterday. The game was tight in the first half with Morphett Vale leading by four points at the long break. The Emus dominated the second half, kicking nine goals to four, to win 15.9 (99) to 10.5 (65). Blake Carter was the leading goalkicker on the ground with five goals for the Emus. Tom Dix, Jonah Dolman, Joshua Johns and Steven O’Brien all kicked two goals for the Cockle Divers. Best players for Morphett Vale were Braydan Hartwig, Carter, Khori Mills-Richardson, Michael Smith and Aiden Baker. James Ledgard, Sam Abbott, Dix, Billy Cook and O’Brien were named best for Port Noarlunga.
