Vikings riding high in the Southern Football League

Happy Valley won their third game on the trot with a convincing 99-point win against Christies Beach during round five action in the Southern Football League (SFL). Happy Valley got off to a fast start to lead by 30 points at quarter time and extended their lead out to 54 points by halftime. The Vikings continued on their merry way after halftime as they kicked a further 11 goals to three to win 21.7 (133) to 4.10 (34). New recruit Ben Geytenbeek continued his good start to the season as he kicked six goals, giving him 23 for the season. Josh Dwyer-Sterzl also kicked six goals for Happy Valley while Jack Flett kicked three . Bailey Short and Keelan Boehm each kicked two goals for Christies Beach. Jaxon McGregor-Dey, Scott Rademacher, Dwyer-Sterzl, Joel Beeche and James Hay were named in the best players for the Vikings. Jacob Crate, Aidan Coakley and Aiden Fitzgibbons were among the best for a disappointing Saints outfit.


Flagstaff Hill had a huge percentage-boosting win against Cove to consolidate second spot on the ladder. The Falcons kicked a whopping 38.16 (244) to Cove’s 5.7 (37) to win by 207 points. It was an entertaining first quarter with 10 goals scored with Flagstaff Hill taking a 17-point lead to the first break. From that moment on it was all ‘Flaggies’ with the five-time reigning premier kicking an incredible 32 goals to one in the last three quarters. The Falcons had 11 different goal kickers with Daniel Webb (8), Daniel Butcher (6), Ryan Mountford (5), Sam Smith (4) and Mitchell Johnson (4) leading the way. Jayden Morton kicked two majors for the Cobras. Michael Shearer, Webb, Johnson, Sam Tharaldsen and Butcher were best for a dominant Flagstaff Hill outfit. Cove were best served by Alex Shaw, Hayden Kernahan, Alex Marra, Scott Grieve and Michael Galley.


Reynella are looming as the biggest threat to Flagstaff Hill’s dominance as they continued their undefeated start to the season with an impressive 44-point win at Morphett Vale on Mother’s Day. Reynella got off to a fast start as they kicked 5.2 (32) to 0.2 (2) in the first quarter. The Emus fought back in the second term to reduce the margin to 27 points at the long break. They could have been even closer had they not kicked an inaccurate 3.7 for the term. Reynella went on with the job after halftime, kicking nine goals to six, to win 17.8 (110) to 9.12 (66). Reynella shared the goals around with Robert Irra kicking four goals for the winners. Jonah Dolman kicked three goals for Morphett Vale. Dylan Roser continued his excellent season for the Wine Flies to be named their best player and he was well supported by Tyler Davies, Jason Farrier, Irra and Boyd Austin. Morphett Vale’s best were Aiden Baker, Daniel Bode, Scott Carpenter, Connor Mulloy and Julian Mardigan.


Noarlunga moved up to fourth spot on the SFL ladder following their 28-point win against Aldinga. The Shoes led by 21 points at quarter time and by 20 points at halftime. Aldinga managed to kick six goals after halftime with Noarlunga kicking an inaccurate 5.16 to win 11.23 (89) to 9.7 (61). Vic Robertson and Terry Kathopoulis each kicked two goals for Noarlunga while Timmy Sumner and Jason Martin also kicked two goals for the Sharks. Sam Carlyle continued his consistent season to be named best for the Shoes along with Jake Anderson, Matthew Fry, Tailen Hobson and Shane Stagg. Timmy Sumner, Byron Sumner, Jack O’Hanlon, Michael Balas and Brady O’Hanlon were named in the best players for Aldinga.
