The inevitable spread of the coronavirus Covid-19 has touched the Fleurieu, with a Yankalilla resident and a local netballer testing positive.
Yankalilla Area School principal Christine Bell has written to advise parents and carers that a small number of students and a staff member had come into contact with a community member who has tested positive to the virus.
They have been directed to self-quarantine from the evening of Tuesday 16 March.
In her letter Ms Bell says the school is following directions from SA Health and the Department for Education.
Great Southern Netball Association president Sherryll Rothwell has posted to Facebook that a league player has tested positive for the virus and the remainder of her team are awaiting test results.
She has recommended that clubs cancel all netball-related activities until further notice, including all training and games.
“We understand that this is a rapidly changing and evolving situation and just as we know our affiliated clubs do, at GSNA we want to ensure the safety and health of all our players, officials, volunteers, family, friends and the wider netball community.”
Fleurieu businesses have been hit hard by the uncertainty caused by the spread of the virus, with many scaling down and cutting back.
Victor Harbor’s Ocean Crest café has posted to Facebook that it will close until further notice.
“The health and wellbeing of our staff, families and customers is paramount.”
According to the federal health department at 6am on 17 March there were 375 confirmed cases of the coronavirus Covid-19, including 29 in South Australia. Five people have died.
