The Bucklands Wellbeing Centre in Port Elliot needs volunteers to help build their community garden.
The not-for-profit centre opened in July and is located on a 48 acre site between Middleton and Port Elliot, overlooking Bashams Beach and next to the Steamranger train line.
Construction of disability friendly spaces and refurbishment of the historic buildings that date from the 1870s is ongoing but the centre is already offering inclusive programs for people on the autism spectrum and the wider community.
As the community garden takes shape, volunteers will help to expand and maintain the grounds, which include cottage gardens, formal gardens, lawns and native revegetation shelter belts and bird corridors.
Volunteers who donate their time will be given space for their own allotment at the centre.
No experience is necessary and the Friends of Bucklands Gardening Group will provide training and workshops. Volunteers will need a police check but will be helped to obtain one.
All food grown in the community garden will be used at the centre or donated to participants or the wider community.
All basic tools and materials will be supplied.
