Walking the talk on sustainability Lou Nicholson, Independent and Lauren Parkinson, Owner of Goolwa Cellar Door.

Lou Nicholson held a ‘Clothes Swap’ fundraiser during August at the Goolwa Cellar Door.

Passionate about sustainability, Lou saw an opportunity with her fundraiser to speak with locals and actively engage in more conscientious practices.

According to the World Bank, the fashion industry accounts for 10 per cent of global carbon emissions.

“Every time we avoid buying new, we are making a difference,” Lou says.

Attendees were able to bring high-quality items from their wardrobes that they no longer wear and browse items from the group to swap.

“It was a lot of fun and a great success,” Lou says. “The Goolwa Cellar Door had their wonderful range of wine on offer, and I got to speak to locals about their views on climate change and many other issues.”

Lou will be nominating as an independent candidate for the seat of Finniss in the March 2022 state election.

She has a Quiz Night Fundraiser coming up on Friday 17 September, which is open to the public. Details are on her website
