It has been a leaky year for Alexandrina Council, first the Strathalbyn pool and now Goolwa’s war dogs memorial drinking fountain.
The council has had to turn off the fountain on Admiral Terrace while it undertakes repairs to fix a significant leak.
After preliminary investigations the council says the solution will be complex because replacement taps are not readily available, and the fountain workings are inside the terazzo casing.
It will install a temporary tap alongside the monument until the fountain can be permanently fixed.
The polished black granite memorial honours Australian Army Trackers and their dogs who served Australia in armed conflicts since WWII.
It remembers those dogs that died on active service and those unable to return from Vietnam.
The fountain bears the inscription ‘Have a drink on Me’.
