The Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) has issued an alert regarding potentially contaminated road base material.
FRWA recently undertook testing of its recycled road base material at the Goolwa Waste and Recycling Depot, and found a very small quantity of bonded asbestos within the stockpile.
The authority is seeking to identify anyone who purchased the material between 1 September 2020 and 31 March 2021 from the Goolwa, Strathalbyn or Yankalilla Waste and Recycling Depots.
Anyone who has purchased the material should contact the FRWA consultant on 0413 703 705 to provide information about the purchase of the material and how it is being used.
The consultant will provide further information as to how the matter is being addressed.
Further information about this issue, including how to manage asbestos contaminated material, can be found on the FRWA website.
The FRWA is joint operation of the member councils of the Fleurieu Peninsula to manage their waste and recycling. They include Alexandrina Council; City of Victor Harbor; Kangaroo Island Council; and the District Council of Yankalilla.
