A surfing wave pool tourism development proposed for Aldinga has been resubmitted for planning approval with some modifications to the original application.
If approved the resort will be built on cropping land at Lot 3 Tuit Road, Aldinga, next to the Port Willunga Tourist Park.
It will include 35 tourist accommodation units, with associated café/restaurant, shop, office, surf school, wellness studio surf academy, plus carparking and landscaping.
According to City of Onkaparinga, the original development application has been amended to remove a proposed ‘Tap House’ and 25m high light towers.
“The applicant has now proposed lighting for the carpark and some flood lights attached to buildings to light the lagoon in the evenings.
“The applicant has indicated a proposed capacity across the whole site as being capped at 400 people and proposed the below hours of operation of the site are generally 7am – 11pm.
“The site is located within the Tourism Development Zone and does not trigger public notification due to the uses proposed being exempt from notification within the zone. It is currently proposed that the application will be delegated by the Assessment Manager (the Relevant Authority) to the Council Assessment Panel for consideration and determination at a public meeting.
The surf lagoon will generate 2.1 metre high waves up to every 12 seconds with facilities including beach cabanas, a pool and boardwalk/jetty.
It will only be accessible to paying guests, but the public will be invited to watch the surfing.
More information on the surf park proposal can be found on the developer’s website. Details of the new development application can be found on the Plan SA website.
