Wet Paint showcases young talentMembers of Wet Paint at their End of Year Celebrations at Goolwa.

The Wet Paint Youth Theatre Group held their end of year celebrations in Goolwa just before Christmas, marking the end of an exceptional year.

Currently jointly funded by the City of Victor Harbor and the Alexandrina Council, the theatre group provides the youth of the South Coast with an invaluable opportunity to take part in live theatre and filmmaking activities, from writing their own scripts to all areas of the theatre experience.

In November the group presented a Theatre Showcase Extravaganza in Goolwa’s Centenary Hall, which interweaved live performances and an array of short films prepared by the talented participants during earlier filmmaking workshops held earlier in the year.

“Wet Paint is a really important activity for the youth in this area, it is so much more than a theatre group it is a place where all young people of different abilities can come together, create and belong,” says Youth Development Officer, Lucretia Sperring.

“We’re really lucky to have a connection with film maker Oliver Delvecchio, who comes to share his skills, and our fantastic theatre tutor Luke Allen, who is amazing at connecting and encouraging the young people.

“This year the young people made a host of really creative short films: some that were really insightful; some that explored what it means to be an outsider at school; and some that really pushed and explored the tropes of movie making, while making the audience laugh.”

“As a parent it was just great to see the sense of achievement and the pride the kids felt after presenting their films and the audience really enjoyed them. It was such a good night.”

Wet Paint aims to be an inclusive and welcoming group and is open to youth aged between 12 and 24 who live on the south coast.

Workshops will start again in Term one - 19 February 2020, in Victor Harbor. For more information can contact Lucretia at the City of Victor Harbor on 8551 0586 or email
