SA Whale Centre’s education programs will be outsourced when the centre reopens for business.
The City of Victor Harbor has called for Expressions of Interest in running the program, which closes 21 October.
The council describes it as an opportunity for an independent operator to expand on the education and touring program at the Whale Centre.
The centre has previously offered school-based education as well as guided tours of the facility and school holiday programming to primary school aged children.
In July 2020 the council decided to consolidate the operations of the Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and the SA Whale Centre, with projected savings of $150,000 each year.
It closed the Whale Centre in December 2020 to enable renovation of the Railway Goods Shed that housed it.
This was scheduled for completion in June but extensive delays have been caused by what the council says are complexities associated with renovating a State Heritage building.
It had expected to move the VIC into the building in October, from its temporary quarters at the Coral Street Art Space, but a date is yet to be confirmed.
Full details Of the SA Whale Centre education program and EOI brief are on the council’s website.
