The South Coast’s bumper whale season is continuing and Petrel Cove looks like the place to be today.
The SA Whale Centre says as many as six Southern Right Whales were spotted only 100-150 metres off shore at Petrel Cove at 9.15 this morning.
Buttons and her calf are still making appearances around the Middleton and Port Elliot area, spotted just before 11am southwest of Miami Boulevard.
In the meantime, local residents are still trying to find out about several large boats that were spotted in the waters of the whale nursery off Basham Beach last night.
The lights from the vessels were extremely bright with several residents reporting that they were illuminating their front gardens and rooms.
The boats were spotted as late as 3am but had disappeared by 5.15am.
Their appearance in the nursery has been reported to SAPOL and the Department for the Environment.
