What to do with doggy doo

Dog owners of the Fleurieu have been asked to fill in a short survey about dealing with dog waste.

The survey is a follow-up to one held late last year to get an idea of dog owners’ interest in and knowledge of sustainable dog waste management.

Alexandrina Council, Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority and the Friends of the Port Elliot Dog Park have devised the 12-question survey to find out how people dispose of the waste both at home and when out and about.

The surveys form part of a larger project aimed at diverting dog waste from landfill and will inform waste management Australia-wide.

The Port Elliot Dog Park completed a 12-week trial of waste diversion earlier this year, with compostable bags put in a green bin.

The trial diverted more than 200kg of waste and more than 2800 plastic bags from landfill.

UniSA is overseeing the survey and all responses will be anonymous.

The Port Elliot Dog Park reopened on 4 May, with a maximum of 10 people permitted at any time and social distancing measures applied for humans.
