Wild weather floods south coast school

Victor Harbor Primary School was one of many places to need help from emergency services due to heavy weather across the Fleurieu this morning, Monday 26 May.

A Department for Education spokesperson says clogged drains at Victor Harbor Primary School led to some flooding in classrooms this morning following some rain.

“The school is grateful for the assistance of the SES and local MFS who provided assistance, and support with some preventative sandbagging in anticipation of more rain in the area.

“Students have been moved to alternative classrooms for the day.”

Gutters and drains have been unable to cope with heavy downpours and hailstorms across the region, which are expected to continue throughout the day before easing tomorrow.

The SES has attended callouts across the southern and western Fleurieu, in Aldinga Beach, Sellicks Beach, Hayborough, Carrickalinga, Normanville, Myponga and Port Elliot, as well as Victor Harbor.

The callouts have been to deal with fallen trees, flooding and severe weather.
