The State Emergency Service (SES) is advising people to plan ahead and put away all loose items in their backyard or on their balcony ahead of expected strong winds later today in some parts of the state.

SES Chief of Staff Derren Halleday says garden furniture, market umbrellas, outdoor furniture and trampolines all had the potential to become airborne and cause considerable property damage.

“We are expecting our crews to be fairly busy later today responding to numerous fallen trees. Some of these may have fallen across roads bringing down powerlines, so we are urging motorists to be particularly vigilant and always drive to the conditions.

“We are also asking people to be mindful about where they park their car today. It is never a good idea to park under large trees as they can become unstable and fall during strong wind events,” Mr Halleday says.

The SES is urging people to listen to local radio stations and monitor the SES social media channels, which include Facebook and Twitter, for information, updates and advice.

Information and some simple steps on how home and business owners can prepare for severe weather can be found on the SES website www.ses.sa.gov.au

For emergency assistance in storms and floods call the SES on 132 500. In life-threatening emergencies call 000 (Triple Zero).
