Willunga are through to the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) Grand Final following an upset nine point win over undefeated minor premier McLaren at Victor Harbor yesterday. One goal to each team in the first quarter saw McLaren lead by four points at quarter time and they had extended their lead out to nine points by halftime. The third term would prove the difference in the match as Willunga kicked three goals while keeping McLaren scoreless and the Demons went into the last quarter holding a handy 11-point lead. One goal apiece in the final term saw Willunga hold on to win 6.4 (40) to 4.7 (31). Bridie Nye kicked three goals for the Demons while Kimberly Robinson kicked two. Katrice Turner, Ella Radbone, Caitlin Radbone, Nye and Carli Perryman were best for the Demons while for McLaren, Jessica Hutton, Tahlita Buethke and Sally Fuller were amongst the Eagles best players.
Reigning premier Strathalbyn are out of the 2020 season as Mount Compass progressed to the Preliminary Final with a grinding four point victory in the first semi-final. In a low scoring game, Strathalbyn led by one point at quarter time, seven points at halftime and four points at the last change. It was all set up for a cracking final term and Mount Compass finished strongly to kick two goals to one in the last quarter and win 4.3 (27) to 3.5 (23). Mykala Walker-Murphy kicked two goals for Mount Compass as did Indigo Miller for Strathalbyn. Linda Shute, Taylah Eastwood, Kiara Upitis, Stacey Dale and Walker-Murphy were best for the Bulldogs while Miller, Katie Ehlers, Tessa Grant, Emogen Johnson and Georgie Pater were named in the best players for the Roosters.
