Willunga celebrated their 150th birthday in style with their first win of the season, a comprehensive 106-point win over Mt Compass, during round eight action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Willunga yesterday. The Demons led by 21 points at quarter time, 52 points at halftime, and 71 points at the last change, before winning 18.8 (116) to 1.4 (10). Ryan Sherry (5), Dylan Draper (4) and Cam McDonald (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Willunga, while Cody Connor kicked the only goal for the Bulldogs. Best players for Willunga were Cameron Hutchens, Braden Altus, Brady McDonald, Harrison Mills, Jackson Collins and Jake Renney.

Strathalbyn won their third game of the season after defeating Yankalilla by 17 points yesterday. Ben Simounds kicked five goals for the Roosters as they won 12.10 (82) to 8.17 (65). The Roosters’ win kept their slim finals chances alive with 10 games left in the season. Best players for Strathalbyn were Brock Keding, Marc Elliott, Jacob Wright, Tay Crawford-Sandison, Cooper Machin and Mark Tucker. Joe Tyllis and Karison Kantilla kicked three goals each for the Tigers and their best players were Chris Clark, Jesse Fitzgerald, Tyler Athanasos, Tyllis, Jack Fitzgerald and Ayden Duke.

Reigning premier McLaren Districts has ominously moved up to second spot on the ladder following their sixth win on the trot. The Eagles led at every change against Encounter Bay before winning 13.12 (90) to 5.7 (37). Henry Mathews (3), Jackson Daniels (2), Matthew Merrett (2) and Luke Mitton (2) were the multiple goalkickers for McLaren Districts, while their best players were Mathews, Aaron Rende, Sam Venning, Daniels, Mitton and Lachlan Camm. Best for the Bays included Cory Gamble, Callum Tonkin, Ryan Pearsons, Marcus Lippett, James Bradford and Jarran Crabb.

Myponga-Sellicks consolidated their spot in the top-five with a percentage boosting 214-point win at home against Goolwa/Port Elliot. The Mudlarks led  by 93 points at halftime and kicked a further 19 goals to one in the second half to win 33.29 (227) to 2.1 (13). Jake Spinks kicked 10 goals to be named best afield, while Darren Shillabeer snagged eight majors to give him 47 goals for the season so far. Luke Oliver and Logan Payne were the goalkickers for the Magpies. Joining Spinks in the best for Myponga-Sellicks included Sam Kennedy, Scott Hunt, Ben Kennedy, Jack O'Hanlon and Mitchell Wilkins. The Magpies were best served by Levi Baillie, James Fry, Kai Iwao, Fred Nissen and Kaiden Wilton.

Victor Harbor will go to the June long weekend bye undefeated and on top of the ladder after winning a high scoring game against Langhorne Creek by 34 points yesterday. Victor Harbor led by 27 points at halftime, before the Hawks hit back in the third term to reduce the margin to 16 points at the last change. ‘Victor’ steadied in the last quarter, kicking six goals to three, to win 20.8 (128) to 14.10 (94). Sam Basham was the leading goalkicker on the field with five majors, giving him 41 for the season, while Michael Ross and Ben Heaslip kicked four goals each. Jarrod Kellock (4), Mitch Cleggett (3) and Caleb Howell (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Hawks. Best players for Victor Harbor were Ross, Heaslip, Zac Dowling, Matthew Wiese, Reece Kleinig and Mitchell Brook. Langhorne Creek’s best were Kellock, Matt Dominish, Henry Bruce, Angus Cole, Tom Derham and James Dawson.
