Image courtesy of City of Onkaparinga. The City of Onkaparinga has begun community consultation on its plans to increase natural water flow in the Willunga Creek and reducing flooding.
The council says the original Willunga Creek alignment through the township was significantly modified many years ago, with water now flowing down Methodist Street, Giles Road and Norman Road.
Willunga Creek is one of only two perennial creeks in the council area, with water flowing year-round from natural springs.
The council will talk to affected property owners for their feedback and local knowledge, as well as undertaking detailed site surveys and advanced flood modelling to better understand the impact of increased flows.
The aim is to confirm what works are needed to reduce potential flooding in Willunga.
The next stage will involve development of a concept design, which will be shared with affected property owners and the wider Willunga community.
Anyone with information that could assist with the design is asked to share it to the council’s YourSay page.
