Willunga finish undefeated minor premiers in the Great Southern Football League Women's competition

Willunga flexed their muscles ahead of the finals, as they completed an undefeated minor round with a 92-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot during round 14 action in the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League today. The Demons led by 18 points at quarter time, 42 points at halftime, and 68 points at the last change, before winning 14.8 (92) to 0.0 (0). Tamara Page kicked four goals in a best-on-ground display for Willunga and she was well supported by Chelsea Farr (3), Jodie Hunt (2), Shae Archbold (2) and Cleo Guilfoyle (2), who were the other multiple goalkickers. Joining Page in the best players for the minor premier were Patty Sommerville, Guilfoyle, Courtney Gutschmidt and Hunt. Best for the Magpies included Lucy Earl, Tracey O’Donnell and Kaya Angus.


McLaren Eagles wrapped up the double chance following their 18-point win against Victor Harbor on Friday night. The Eagles travelled down to Victor Harbor and came away with a 4.3 (27) to 1.3 (9) victory. Meg Bentley, Sally Fuller, Sheena Peters and Caitlin Ross were the goalkickers for McLaren, while Daisy Blencowe was the sole goalkicker for ‘Victor’. Best players for McLaren were Sophia Flanagan-Sjoberg, Emily Rowe, Tiffany Copley, Katie Whish and Fuller. Jaimi Tabb, Aloura Kirk and Courtney Barry were among the best players for the ‘Roos.


Strathalbyn will enter the finals next week with confidence after winning their final minor round match by 29 points against Mount Compass at ‘Strath’ on Friday night. The Roosters played an excellent first half as they took a commanding 31-point lead to halftime. The Bulldogs battled hard in the second half to outscore Strathalbyn, but the damage had been done as the home side won 7.7 (49) to 3.2 (20). Indi Miller and Megan Rich kicked two goals each for Strathalbyn, while Chelsea Hicks, Amy Vitkunas and Brooke Boileau were the goalkickers for ‘Compass’. Tessa Grant, Georgie Pater, Tess Huxtable, Emma Chapman and Eliza Fegusen were named best players for the Roosters, while Vitkunas, Boileau and Caroline Scott were among the best players for the Bulldogs.


Yankalilla had the bye.
