Willunga go top of the GSFLW ladder with one round remaining before finalsWillunga Open Women's team celebrate their 18-point win over Mount Compass during round 13 action in the Great Southern Football League.

Willunga took over top spot on the Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) ladder following their 18-point win over Mount Compass in their top-of-the-table clash yesterday. Willunga led by just one point at quarter time before kicking two goals to none in the second quarter to take a handy 13-point lead at halftime. A further two goals to one in the second half saw Willunga win 5.1 (31) to 2.1 (13). Shae Archbold kicked three goals for the Demons to give her 24 for the season. Taylar McGrath and Demi Sharp kicked the goals for the Bulldogs. Jess Williams was named best for Willunga and she was ably supported by Caitlin Radbone, Ella Radbone, Kristen Rothwell and Katrice Turner. Best for Mount Compass was Amy Taylor with support from Morgan Dalglish, Brooke Boileau, Sharp and Megan Tilby.


Goolwa/Port Elliot wrapped up their finals spot with a comfortable 45-point win against Encounter Bay at Goolwa. The Magpies kept the Bays scoreless for the first three quarters before winning 8.4 (52) to 1.1 (7). Stevie Robinson, Megan Hoad and Catherine Griffen all kicked two goals for Goolwa/Port Elliot while Joanne Lush kicked Encounter Bay’s only goal. Best players for Goolwa/Port Elliot were Hoad, Robinson, Renee Moon, Jaimi Griffen and Rachel Searle. Tess Huxtable, Keeley Round, Amber Grahame, Chelsea Walker and Kayla Lang were best for the Bays.


Yankalilla had a big 72-point upset win against Strathalbyn at Yankalilla yesterday. The Tigers led by 13 points at quarter time, 27 points at halftime and 41 points at the final change before winning 12.7 (79) to 1.1 (7). Chloe Howlett and Jasmine Smith each kicked three goals for 'Yank' while Kimberly Robinson kicked two majors. Megan Rich kicked the Roosters only goal. Jasmine Smith, Nari Wright, Tahlia Sheehan, Charlotte Dolan and Howlett were named as Yankalilla’s best players while for Strathalbyn, Matilda King, Georgie Pater, Courtney Mesecke, Tessa Grant and Morgan Tucker were their best players.


McLaren won their 10th game of 2021 with a 75-point win against Victor Harbor at Yankalilla. The Eagles led by nine points at quarter time, 28 points at halftime and 66 points at the final change before winning 11.11 (77) to 0.2 (2). Sheena Peters kicked five goals for McLaren in a best on ground performance while Caitlin Ross was named second best for the Eagles with three goals. Other good players for McLaren included Layla Rogers, Gwen Humphreys and Jessica Hutton. Maya Overall, Jaimee Millard, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner, Demi Morse and Daisy Blencowe were best for the Kangaroos.
