Willunga President chosen as AFLW ambassadorWillunga FC president Julie Clifton with daughters Lindsay and Lauren.

Willunga Football Club’s trailblazing president Julie Clifton has been selected as AFLW Community Ambassador for South Australia.


She is one of seven chosen from around Australia for their contribution to grassroots female football.


The AFL selects one nominee each from New South Wales/ACT, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia.


Julie Clifton was recognised for her contribution and commitment to women's football and particularly Willunga Football Club and South Adelaide Football Club.


As a 2022 Chemist Warehouse AFLW Community Ambassador, she will receive a $1000 grant from the Women's Football Fund to donate to the community football club of her choice.


She will also be invited to a virtual networking event to meet the other state ambassadors and will be honoured at the 2022 NAB AFLW Grand Final .


Julie was elected as Willunga FC president in November, the first woman in the club’s 147 year history.


It followed many years of service on the management committee, as a trainer and as Women’s Football Coordinator.


The club is delighted that its president has been recognised by the AFL, posting the news on Facebook.

The AFLW season is scheduled to start on 7 January, COVID permitting.
