In what could be a grand final preview, Willunga defeated McLaren Districts by 22 points during round 12 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition at McLaren Vale last Friday night. Willunga led by just six points at halftime, before kicking four goals to one in the second half to win 8.6 (54) to 4.8 (32). Jessica Kirk and Bella Rigby kicked three goals each for the Demons, while their best players were Kirstin Remfrey, Caitlin Radbone, Kirk, Rigby, Cleo Guilfoyle and Tamara Page. Best players for the Eagles included Taylah Scapens, Caitlin Ross, Sheena Peters, Abby Woodward, Katrina Munzberg and Layla Rogers.
Yankalilla/Encounter Bay consolidated their spot in the top-four with a comfortable 38-point win against Victor Harbor at Yankalilla on Sunday. The Stingrays led throughout to triumph 6.7 (43) to 0.5 (5). Best players for Yankalilla/Encounter Bay included Laura Niejalke, Delia Althorp, Matisse Hunter (3 goals), Jemima Althorp, Tyler Rigney-Garrett and Annabel Mallord. The ‘Roos were best served by Maya Overall, Georgia Garrett, Lucy Rubie, Annabelle Yelland, Georgia Perry and Deb Beaton.
Goolwa/Port Elliot won their seventh game of the season after defeating Myponga-Sellicks by 52 points at Yankalilla on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies got up 7.11 (53) to 0.1 (1) with Caitlin Curyer and Lily Jenke each kicking two goals for the Magpies. Goolwa/Port Elliot’s best players were Indigo Miller, Jessica Bailey, Kalani Bates, Jenke, Kerrie-Ann Moon and Taylor Kennedy. Nari Wright, Grace Deacon, Courtney Gum, Roxanne Deacon, Imogen Harney and Elsie Upton were named in the best players for the Mudlarks.
