Willunga wrap up minor premiership in the Great Southern Cricket Association

Willunga wrapped up their third successive minor premiership after a crushing 244-run win over Mount Compass in round 11 action of the Great Southern Cricket Association (GSCA) on Saturday. The Demons were going for their 10th win in a row after making a large total of 6/281 on day one at Willunga Oval. Mount Compass had no answer to the disciplined Willunga bowling outfit as they slumped to a disastrous 8/17 before Robert Martin (12) and Ziggy Vitkunas (8) added 20 for the ninth wicket. The Bulls were eventually dismissed for just 37 in the 19th over. Luke Goldner continued his excellent season as he snared 6/16 from a probing nine overs. Tye McIvor (2/7) and Simon Roberts (2/11) were the other wicket takers for the Demons. These three bowlers have combined for an impressive 72 wickets in 2019/20.

Port Elliot leapfrogged Encounter Bay into fourth position after a 61-run win at Port Elliot Oval. Encounter Bay were chasing 233 for victory and were in early trouble at 5/64 with only Sam Hoffmann (27) showing any real resistance. Andrew Pacitti (32) and Dillon Burns (30) helped the visitors back into the game but ultimately they were bowled out for 171 in the 67th over. Colby Whitbourne was the star with the ball taking his best ‘A’ grade bowling figures with 4/32 (15.4). He was well supported by Ben Griffiths (2/21) and Simon Donaldson (2/30).

Goolwa defeated McLaren Districts by 67 runs at Goolwa Oval to keep hold of second spot on the GSCA ladder. The Magpies were defending their day one total of 154 and they were always in control as they dismissed the Crushers for just 87 in the 57th over. Only Antony Natale (27) and Zac Hodges (22) passed 20 for McLaren Districts. James Lawrence 7/24 (19.3) was the star with the ball for Goolwa. Lawrence has taken 18 wickets in his past five games, including two five-wicket hauls. Josh Jones continued his excellent season taking 3/14 (10).

Reigning premier Noarlunga had a comfortable eight-wicket win over Myponga to secure a finals berth with one round to go. Myponga had batted out day one but could only post 4/119 which proved an easy task for the Shoes as skipper Jason Scarff (86 not out) notched his fourth half century of the campaign before declaring at 2/149. Myponga batted out 12 overs in their second innings to finish on 0/23.
