On Sunday 10 November, the historic Victa Cinema in Victor Harbor will transform from a movie theater to a concert venue as it hosts the Windsong Quintet’s Ocean Winds concert. This unique performance will blend live classical music with a multimedia presentation designed by baritone Emlyn O’Regan, creating an immersive sound-to-light experience.
The concert, set against the backdrop of the cinema’s iconic art deco architecture, promises to captivate audiences with a program inspired by the sea. The Windsong Quintet, known for their innovative chamber performances, will be joined by a lineup of talented guest artists, including mezzo-soprano and composer Jodie O’Regan, and Dr Andrew Wiering on vibraphone.
In addition to rollicking sea shanties that encourage audience participation, the performance will feature works by well-known composers such as Elena Kats-Chernin, Malcolm Arnold, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. A highlight of the concert will be the premiere of Jodie O’Regan’s new composition, Elegy for a Grieving Ocean, which reflects on the region’s whaling history and its impact on the marine environment.
The combination of live music, visual effects, and thought-provoking themes makes Ocean Winds an event not to be missed. The concert begins at 2pm, and tickets are available both online and at the door, with prices set at $25 for concessions and $40 for adults.
With its long history dating back to the 1920s, the Victa Cinema provides a fitting venue for a concert that blends modern multimedia with timeless classical music, offering a rich cultural experience for the community of Victor Harbor.
