Wine Flies buzzing after undefeated start in the Southern Football League

Reynella continued their unbeaten start to the season with a convincing 80-point win against Christies Beach during round three action in the Southern Football League (SFL) yesterday. Reynella dominated the first half to take an unassailable 57-point lead at the long break. Christies Beach battled hard in the third term to outscore Reynella, but they still trailed by 54 points at the last change. A further five goals to none in the final quarter saw Reynella win 18.9 (117) to 5.7 (37). Brad Potter (5), Marc Borholm (4), Callan Semple (4) and Bailey Marshman (3) were the leading goalkickers for the Wine Flies, while Nathan Stock kicked two goals for the Saints. Sam Whitbread, Marshman, Potter, Robert Irra and Cameron McGree were best for Reynella while for ‘Christies’, Shaun King, Stock, Lee Hoey, Aidan Coakley and Joel Andruszkiewicz were their best players. 


Aldinga won their first game of the season with a hard-fought 12-point win at Port Noarlunga. ‘Porties’, chasing their first win of 2022, led by three points at the last change before Aldinga kicked an inaccurate 2.9 to 1.0 in the last quarter to win 6.16 (52) to 6.4 (40). Travis Stone kicked three goals for Aldinga, while Sam Roberts kicked two for Port Noarlunga. Tyler Flintham, Angus Stangewitz, James Bailey, Bailey Pilmore and Brady O’Hanlon were best for the Sharks. Alex McKay, Jordan Zeitz and Jesse-Jay Vaughan were among the best players for Port Noarlunga.


Reigning premier Flagstaff Hill won their second game of the season with a 46-point win at Morphett Vale. After a tight opening quarter, ‘Flaggies’ kicked six goals to one in the second term to take a handy 35-point lead to halftime. The home side hit back in the third quarter to reduce the margin to 15 points at the last change. The Falcons steadied and eventually pulled away in the last quarter to win 16.13 (109) to 9.9 (63). Flagstaff Hill had nine different goal kickers with Daniel Butcher and Mitchell Johnson each slotting three majors. Dylan Williams also kicked three goals for the Emus. Best for the Falcons were Johnson, Michael Shearer, Kobe Cavouras, Declan Tomkins and Brad Kirk. Anthony Biemans, Liam Corrie and Williams were best for Morphett Vale.


Happy Valley won their first game of the season with a convincing 55-point win against Noarlunga at Happy Valley. The Vikings dominated from the start as they took a 46-point lead to three quarter time, kicking an incredible 14 goals straight! A further three goals to one in the final term saw Happy Valley win 17.3 (105) to 6.14 (50). 2021 leading goalkicker Ben Geytenbeek kicked eight goals for the Vikings while Ben Ryan kicked three. Tom Anderson kicked two goals for the Shoes. Best for Happy Valley were Tate Coleman, Joel Beeche, Geytenbeek, Ryan and Damon Birbek. Jaidan Kappler, Bailey Snelling and Troy Johnson were among Noarlunga’s best players.
