Wine Flies undefeated after two rounds in the Southern Football League

Reynella made it two-from-two to start the 2021 season with a tough nine-point win over Noarlunga in round two action of the Southern Football League (SFL) on Saturday. Reynella started well to lead by 14 points at quarter time and they extended their lead out to a handy 21 points at the long break. Noarlunga fought back in the third term to kick 5.1 to 3.1 as the margin was reduced to just nine points at the last change. The Wine Flies steadied in the final term with both teams kicking three goals each as Reynella came out on top 11.9 (75) to 10.6 (66). For the second game in a row, Reynella forward Callan Semple kicked five goals while Bailey Marshman slotted three majors. Vic Robertson played a lone hand up forward for the Shoes as he dobbed five goals for his side. Robert Irra, James Smith and Nick McLean were named among the best players for Reynella while Callum Gaspari, Sam Carlyle and Thomas Mott were best for Noarlunga.


Cove got their first win of the season with a thrilling one-point win against Happy Valley at Cove. Happy Valley were having their first outing for 2021 after a round one bye and they played well to lead by 14 points at three quarter time. The Cobras, revved on by their home crowd, came home with a wet sail to kick five goals to three in the final term to win 14.12 (96) to 14.11 (95). James Farrugia kicked four goals for the Cobras and Ryan Need kicked three. Scott Grieve, Hayden Kernahan and Need were named in the best players for Cove. Ben Geytenbeek kicked nine goals on debut for the Vikings and was named as their best player. Lee Davis, Bailey O’Donnell, Dwayne Ruddock and Liam O’Connor were also named in the best players for the Vikings.


Christies Beach also notched their first win of the season with a convincing, but somewhat erratic, 45-point win over Aldinga at Bice Oval. The Saints kicked an inaccurate 9.21 (75) to Aldinga’s 4.6 (30). After a tight opening term saw Christies lead by just two points at quarter time, they came out firing in the second stanza as they kicked 3.7 to no score to lead by 27 points at halftime. A further five goals to three in the second half saw the Saints to their comfortable victory. Blake Carter (3), Aidan Coakley (2) and Keelan Boehm (2) were the multiple goalkickers for Christies while Brady O’Hanlon kicked two majors for the Sharks. Coakley, Brad Truscott, Josh Semmens, Rhys Mundy and Carter were named best for the winners while Angus Stangewitz, Michael Balas and Timmy Sumner were among the Sharks best players. 


Flagstaff Hill are back in a familiar spot on top of the SFL ladder following their 83-point victory against Port Noarlunga. The game was all but over at quarter time after the Falcons slammed on 7.0 (42) to 0.1 (1) in the first term. Port Noarlunga kicked two goals to one in the second quarter to reduce the margin to 38 points at the long break. It was all ‘Flaggies’ in the second half as they kicked seven goals to one to run out winners 15.16 (106) to 3.5 (23). Ryan Mountford and Daniel Butcher each kicked five goals for the winners. Butcher has kicked nine goals in the opening two rounds of 2021. Bradley Patterson, Mountford, Sam Tharaldsen, Brad Kirk and Butcher were the Falcons best players while Jayden Close, Leigh Smith and Paul Randall were among the best players for Port Noarlunga.
