Wine Flies wrap up the minor premiership in the Southern Football League

Reynella wrapped up the minor premiership after defeating Port Noarlunga by 33 points during round 18 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Port Noarlunga yesterday. Reynella led by 10 points at quarter time and extended their lead out to 35 points at the main break. The second half was even as the Wine Flies won 15.16 (106) to 10.13 (73). Callan Semple kicked seven goals in a best-on-ground performance for Reynella, while Zac Sproule kicked three goals for Port Noarlunga. Joining Semple in the best players for Reynella included Sam Whitbread, Tyler Davies, Marc Borholm, Daniel Whitaker and Cameron Kirkland. Best players for ‘Porties’ were Brodie Smith, Kyan Smith, Nicholas Steele, Nathaniel Paredes, Nathan Hedger and Tyler Hathaway.


Happy Valley warmed up for finals action with a comfortable 40-point win against Noarlunga. The Shoes started well to lead by 20 points at quarter time, but the Vikings took over from then on, kicking 12 goals to three, to win 13.11 (89) to 7.7 (49). Harry Vick, Jett Carlier and Liam O’Connor kicked two goals each for Happy Valley, while Vic Robertson also kicked two goals for Noarlunga. Sebastian Oliver, Lachlan Hamilton, Joel Beeche, Cody Cox, Rhys Stringer and Dylan Strickland were named best players for the Vikings. Best for Noarlunga included Callum Gaspari, Josh Beard, Jake Birch, Sam Beard, Jarrad Liebelt and Jamison Snelling. 


Flagstaff Hill finished the minor round in style with a comprehensive 158-point win against Cove. The Falcons led by 76 points at halftime, before kicking another 13 goals to one in the second half to win 27.21 (183) to 3.7 (25). The Falcons had 13 different goalkickers with Sam Smith kicking six majors (48 for the season). Best players for ‘Flaggies’ included Brad Patterson, Mitch Johnson, Caleb McCormick, Smith, Ryan Mountford and Josh Rosman. Best players for the Cobras were Chris Buersch, Alex Marra, Kyle Stoldt, Scott Milne and James Farrugia.


Ironbank Cherry Gardens finished their first season in the SFL with an 18-point win at Aldinga. The Thunderers led by just three points at the last change, before kicking three unanswered goals in the last quarter to win 11.7 (73) to 7.13 (55). Jayden Rea and Dylan Hoyle kicked two goals each for Ironbank Cherry Gardens, while Thomas Boreham and Jack Langdon also kicked two goals for the Sharks. Isaac Hoepfl, Conor Lidstone, Chase Wooley, Levi Grigg, Lachlan Knight and Jacob Matheson were names as best players for the winners, while the Sharks were best served by Samuel Bentley, Angus Stangewitz, Boreham, Tom Pilmore, Luke Watson and Brayden Hooper.


Morphett Vale won their fifth game of the season with an upset 19-point win over finals-bound Christies Beach yesterday. The Emus trailed by two points at halftime, before kicking 12 goals to eight to win 19.4 (118) to 15.9 (99). Morphett Vale skipper Aiden Baker kicked eight goals in a best-on-ground performance and Dylan Williams kicked four. Austin Hogg (4), Alan Singh (3), Shaun King (2) and Josh de Roode (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Saints. Joining Baker in the best players for the Emus were Dylan Miller, Khori Mills-Richardson, Brian Gill, Michael Smith and Scott Carpenter. Best for Christies Beach included Hogg, Rhys Mundy, Mackenzie Nield, Joel Andruszkiewicz, Michael Mazey and Harrison Butcher.
