Workshops on future water security

The City of Onkaparinga has called for residents to get involved in state government workshops setting the strategic direction for the region’s water security.

Three Water for the Future workshops will be held in 2023, with the first in early February.

The state government, in collaboration with business, community, First Nations leaders and council, is preparing a 50 year strategy to improve water security into the future.

It will look at all water sources, consider the potential impacts of climate change on these sources and identify potential water security solutions.

This will be the second water security strategy in the state, following completion of the Barossa Water Security Strategy released in 2022.

Registrations are now open for the McLaren Vale Regional Water Security Strategy workshops.

The strategy will cover most of the City of Onkaparinga area and is relevant to all residents and businesses – not just those in McLaren Vale.

The project is looking for up to forty participants in two full day workshops and a third half day workshop, giving you the opportunity to discuss and develop a vision for the long term future of water in the region, and pathways to achieve it.

The first will be at the McLaren Vale Visitor Information Centre on Wednesday 1 February.  The second is likely to be in May/June, with the third in November/December.

More information can be found on the Departments for Environment and Water website. Register for the workshops via email.
