Yankalilla council consults on future

The District Council of Yankalilla has launched the biggest community consultation ever to be undertaken in the district, inviting people who live, work and play in the area to help create a vision for the future

Nature’s Best, Let’s Plan the Rest is the working title for the initiative that will inform development of the new Strategic Management Plan for 2020-2030.

Between October 2019 and February 2020 there will be a number of ways the public can talk to the council about their ideas for the future. This includes attending township community forums, joining the online discussion forum, writing to council, or attending a ‘what’s the future’ panel discussion event.

There is also the opportunity for people to record a video of themselves being Mayor for a Minute, describing what they would change to prepare their community for the future, if they were mayor.

The public will be asked to consider their hopes and ideas for the future of their community. Questions such as ‘What would you like our district to be known for?’ and ‘What are likely to be the biggest worries for you, your family or community in the coming decade?’ will be used to prompt conversation.

Mayor Glen Rowlands says, “As the local council, myself and my fellow elected members represent the needs of our ratepayers and residents, both now and into the future. We are really looking forward to hearing from the people who live, work and play here to help inform how we plan council’s work in the coming decade.”
