Alex-FM provides a wide range of music for the listening pleasure of all ages. We also feature up to date news, sport and weather and detailed information on community groups and events. It is our aim to provide the best 'on and off air' services to the community.
A brief History!
Alex -FM was the brain-child of 8 residents consisting of former Great Southern FM announcers and Goolwa Business owners. A meeting held on the 12th of November 2001 a Chairman and Vice Chair was elected and each member put in $50 (registration fee). By the 4th of January 2002, Alex-FM became incorporated and on 18th of January submitted an application to ACMA for a temporary license. By December 2003, Alex-FM had equipment to record programs and play them on a narrow cast channel. By 2004 a temporary shared community license was granted to broadcast on 96.5. The station obtained new equipment to link to the tower on Kirby Hill. By this time Alex-FM had 50 members with 16 volunteering as ON-Air Presenters broadcasting live programs from 6am to 9pm and a music mix through the night. Other volunteers assisted in Production, Fund raising, Sales, and Admin. In 2012, Alex-FM was granted a permanent license to broadcast on 96.3.
We are now over 80 members with 41 volunteering as Presenters. We broadcast a wide range of music live from 7am up to 9pm with the music mix overnight. We also live stream 24/7. Alex-FM strongly believes in Social Inclusion and connecting people to their community which enables and empowers them to have a meaningful voice in the community.
