Liquorland has applied for a liquor licence for a “large format” store on the vacant land next to the Aldi supermarket in Victor Harbor.
Liquorland (Australia) Pty Ltd intends to operate the bottleshop under the trading name of First Choice Liquor Market - Hayborough.
Four stores are planned for the site at 50-54 Adelaide Road, which is being developed by DASH Corp Pty Limited.
Pets Domain and Supercheap Auto are also expected to open at the site.
First Choice Liquor stores are operated by Liquorland Australia which is a part of the Coles Group.
The application for the packaged liquor sales licence says the shop would be open from 9am to 10pm, seven days a week.
The store will be about 1000m2 and will be a “large-format liquor store”.
A consultant contracted by the Coles Group says these stores have an emphasis on bulk purchases and hard to find or niche products.
Liquorland already operates two Liquorland branded bottleshops in Victor Harbor.
One is in the Coles supermarket complex 600 metres south of where the new bottleshop would be and the other is in the Victor Central Shopping Centre in the centre of town.
Submissions addressing the application for the new store can be made at online until September 2.
The Department for Consumer and Business Affairs advises submissions regarding liquor licence applications can be made on certain grounds including the suitability of the premises, whether the application would cause undue annoyance, disturbance or inconvenience to people in the area.
Submissions can also be made on the grounds that granting the application would affect the safety of children attending school in the area.
