Voters do not need to be vaccinated to attend a voting centre and campaign activities (including handing out how-to-vote cards) can occur, in line with local health directions and electoral laws.

The Australian Electoral Commission says social distancing will be in force with equipment spaced out, markers and other signage providing guidance and queue controlling staff offering support.

Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers has acknowledged that this may lead to longer wait times but asks the public to be patient while waiting and perhaps give staff a smile or thank you on their way through to vote.

The nine candidates for Mayo (in order of how they appear on the ballot paper) are:

Marisa Bell – Australian Labor Party

Padma Caplin – Animal Justice Party

Jacob Van Raalte – Liberal Democratic Party

Rebekha Sharkie – Centre Alliance

Greg Elliot – Australian Greens

Allison Bluck – Liberal

Samantha McGrail – United Australia Party

Tonya Scott – Pauline Hanson’s One Nation

Mark Neugebauer – Australian Federation Party
