Earn some money on election day

The Australian Electoral Commission needs more staff for election day (Saturday).

Many polling booths may be functioning with insufficient staff due to low registrations for work and people unable to work due to COVID-19.

While the Fleurieu has not been as hard hit as areas such as the Eyre Peninsula, where the AEC is warning that some polling stations will be unable to open, there is still a need for more local staff.

If you are interested in earning some extra money and working as a polling official visitwww.aec.gov.au/electionjobs to register.

It only takes around 20 minutes to register.

The AEC says no experience is needed, and training is provided.

Most election staff will start at 7am and finish by 11pm.

A casual polling assistant is paid between $25 - $26 per hour.

Meal allowances are also payable.

The AEC has asked voters to be patient on election day.

The AEC this morning told the ABC that as of last night 3.9M people had already lodged an early vote and 2.7M had applied for a postal vote.   There are 17.2M people in total on the electoral roll.
