Teachers from the Fleurieu Peninsula will come together on Sunday 5 June for an Encouragement Rally, to show support for teachers and students in the United States.
The rally has been organised in the wake of the recent Texas school shooting in which 19 primary school children and two teachers were killed.
The teachers will meet at 4pm on Sunday at Connell Reserve, just off Hindmarsh Road in Victor Harbor. From there they will walk to Warland Reserve.
Victor Harbor based teacher Mark Tenny is one of the organisers of the rally and says it came from a feeling of wanting to do something to show support for teachers and students in the US.
“They must go to school and in the back of their minds, and their families, think what on earth is going to happen today."
“We just want to put our arms around the teachers and students and say we’re with you and this is one way we thought we could support them."
He said the rally would be filmed and be sent to colleagues in America to show them they have the love and support of Australian teachers.
