A Homelessness Awareness Forum will be held at the Chiton Rocks Surf Club at 6pm Wednesday August 10.
The Fleurieu Community Foundation is hosting the event in conjunction with Junction Housing and other local social agencies.
The event is free with all interested people welcome to come and hear directly from local services that support people experiencing homelessness across the Fleurieu.
Over 400 people find themselves without a home across the Fleurieu each year and the situation is getting worse as a result of the housing crisis.
The Foundation provides grants to organisations who aim to make an impact on the lives of those struggling with the "soul destroying" issue of homelessness.
Register to attend via trybooking or for more information contact the Fleurieu Community Foundation via [email protected] or phone 8552 2411.
Research released by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) earlier this year found that Compared to the national population, those at risk of homelessness are more likely to be female, Indigenous, living in a lone-person or lone-parent household, low income, unemployed or outside the labour force and in receipt of income support payments.
The authors of the research say Australia urgently needs more rental housing for people on low incomes.
Homelessness week is taking place from Monday 1 August to Sunday 7 August and aims to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness on Australia.
